For Families

Family Information

At the initial point where SSEN:BE is assisting a young person, families will be part of the planning of the service agreement that outlines how and when support will occur. Ongoing communication with the school and family is a feature of support for the duration of the service agreement.

Young people referred to SSEN:BE for support

SSEN:BE will be asked to work with a young person (K-12) to assist their social and emotional learning needs predominantly through:

  • A referral from the school the young person is enrolled in;
  • A referral due to partial or permanent exclusion; or
  • Identification of a student’s needs by the Education Regional Office.

Referrals of young people to work with our service will result in either:

  • Direct support for the student at their school site;
  • Direct support for the student at an Engagement Centre or the Midland Learning Academy for an agreed period of time; or
  • Capacity building of school staff to assess, plan and action responses to challenging behaviour.

All children and young people have the potential to successfully engage with learning and lead healthy, happy, and productive lives.

Families seeking SSEN:BE assistance with a young person

If you are a caregiver of a young person who is exhibiting ongoing challenging behaviours that are impacting on engagement with school and their academic and social progress, the first point of enquiry is with your enrolled school.

The school will determine with you whether they can continue to address the needs of the young person with the plans in place or whether there is a need for a SSEN:BE referral.

General information about our services can be accessed either via the tabs on this website or by emailing SSENBE.Admin@education.wa.edu.au or calling (08) 9402 6200.
