What kind of work will I have to do?

All students will have an Individualised program designed for them based on their strengths.

Can friends pick me up?

No, the person who picks you up should be over the age of 18 and have permission from your guardian to collect you.

Can I use my phone?

No, as we are a school, you will still have to follow the Depart of Education Policy ‘Off and away all day” policy. Student Mobile Phones in Public Schools policy

When do I have to attend?

School hours vary dependent on individual plans. However, is it intended that you attend full time from 9:00 am until 1:30 pm. Initially you may have a modified timetable to ensure a smooth transition.

Is there a canteen?

No, there is no canteen, but our schools have a small range of food items that can be eaten during break times.

Can we go off-site to get food?

No, you will not be able to leave the site to get food.

How long am I going to be there?

This is dependent upon your individual plan; your desired future educational pathway, our success in transitioning. You will be placed at your allocated site until you are able to successfully integrate back into your new school or your alternative program.

How long till I can get back to mainstream school?

There is no specific time limit, the time spent at the centre varies and is dependent on many different aspects.

Why do I have to attend SSEN school before going to my newly allocated school?

You will need to attend your SSEN school to assist you in the transition to your new school where you will build the skills needed to (repeat similar incidents that led to your being offered a placement at the engagement centre)

Why do I have to attend if I don’t have special needs?

SSEN:BE is a specialist school, part of the specialist school network that work with schools to support students with varying needs including behaviour. Our school name is based on a number of schools that make up a specialised program run through the education department, it does not mean that you have “special needs” if you come to our school.

Do we do fun stuff/go on excursions?

Yes, there will be opportunities for you to be involved in programs and other external learning settings outside of your allocated site

Who is going to be my teacher?

The teachers at SSEN:BE are highly qualified and all have different strengths. You will probably have interactions with all the onsite teachers and support staff.
